- Single-use plastic carryout bags* at the point of sale. This does not apply to bags used for prescription meds, dry cleaning, produce bags, and other small bags that are not at the point of sale. Single-use paper bags can be offered at the point of sale for a minimum customer charge of 10 cents per bag, which stores keep.

- Plastic straws* except they can be given upon customer request. Hospitals, nursing homes, independent and assisted living, and residential care facilities can provide plastic straws.
- Plastic Stirrers*
*Inventory Exemption: Stores and food service establishments that purchased these single-use products before
May 15, 2019 have until July 1, 2021 to use up the previously purchased product.

August 11, 2020 is Vermont’s Primary Election, where major party candidates will be selected for our congressional delegation, governor, lieutenant governor, auditor, treasurer, etc. Polls will be open at the Mendon Town Office 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM. PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID-19, voting will likely be handled differently to ensure public safety. Changes to voting will be announced on this website, on Front Porch Forum, and Facebook.
We encourage people to request absentee ballots be mailed to you to avoid having to come to the polling place on election day.
You may have received a white postcard entitled Request for Early Absentee Voter Ballot. These postcards were mailed out from the Secretary of State’s election office. This is part of the encouragement to vote-by-mail due to Covid-19 to avoid large numbers of people at the polls on election day.
If you have NOT already requested absentee ballots for August and November, and want to vote by mail, fill out the postcard and mail it back. Please DO NOT FOLD AND TAPE. Simply tear off the return portion. The State has generously covered the cost of the postage, BUT the mail carrier said the town will be charged 20 cents for each postcard that is folded and taped, rather than torn off and returned.
You also may request ballots by calling the clerk’s office at (802)775-1662, or by visiting the My Voter Page website.
If you have moved, you can update your address on the same My Voter Page website. If you are a new Town of Mendon resident – either from another Vermont town or from out of state – you can register at the Online Voter Registration website.
There are three ballots for the primary; one for each major party. All voters will be given all three ballots, but can only vote one of them. Your choice of ballot is private. Click on the link below to view the sample ballots.
